Faculty Position in Computer Security and Privacy

The School of Engineering at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (UC|Chile), one of the leading engineering academic institutions in Latin America and ranked among the top four emerging leaders for engineering education worldwide, invites outstanding candidates for TWO FACULTY POSITIONS to form a new group in Computer Security and Privacy. Admission to UC|Chile is highly competitive and we consistently admit the top students in the country. Particularly, among the computer science students, there is a growing interest in computer security and privacy, with multiple activities organized and led by students, such as talks, seminars, cybersecurity training workshops and tournaments. Also, the area of computer security has become a top priority for the public sector, as shown by several recent initiatives being promoted in the government, such as the National Cybersecurity Policy, the national Incident Response Team – CSIRT (https://www.ciberseguridad.gob.cl/) and the inter-ministerial committee to strengthen the National Cybersecurity Policy, among others. Duties: High-quality teaching (at undergraduate and graduate levels) and conducting independent research. Additional duties include knowledge transfer, outreach, and university administrative tasks. The new position should conduct teaching, research, and technological innovation activities in Computer Security and Privacy, including but not limited to cybersecurity, cryptography, privacy, data and integrity protection, computer network security, information technology security, software and application security, blockchain and smart contracts, computer forensics, intrusion detection and malware mitigation, security services and processes, security in hardware, human and societal aspects of security and privacy, among others. The selected candidate is expected to develop a strong externally funded research program, support doctoral programs, and teach three courses per year, at least two of these courses should belong to the Bachelor of Science in computer science program, and another course according to their expertise. Requirements: Applicants must hold a Ph.D., preferably in Computer Science, and/or have demonstrable expertise in the fields. Due to the nature of our School, the applicant will have the opportunity and should be willing to work collaboratively with other Departments in the School of Engineering. Previous postdoctoral or international academic experience should be stated in the application. Candidates do not need to be fluent in Spanish at the time of application but should be prepared to learn the language well enough to teach in this language in the short term (two years maximum). English is a requirement. Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to all aspects of academic life and the public good of the institution. They must be highly motivated to continuously improve their teaching skills, have a genuine interest in getting involved with our graduate programs (specially the doctoral program), and be able to develop and maintain an active research agenda leading to high-quality publications, securing research grants, generating and participating in interdisciplinary projects, leading scientific and industry-liaison initiatives, strengthening and creating national and international academic networks, etc. The candidate will also be expected to create new undergraduate and graduate courses and teach traditional courses in related areas. La carrera del presente y del futuro

Conoce la Licenciatura en Ingeniería en Ciencia de la Computación y sé protagonista de la transformación digital. El mundo digital avanza constantemente y hoy se hace casi imposible pensar en una vida sin la presencia de la tecnología, ya que esta se encarga de dar soluciones rápidas a las necesidades cotidianas de las personas o usuarios. Esta realidad abre una gran puerta que fomenta el desarrollo académico y laboral de quienes quieran adentrarse en el área digital, informático y computacional. Dado que los profesionales de estas áreas serán cada vez más necesarios en una sociedad que espera constantemente seguir expandiéndose a nivel tecnológico. De hecho, según la BBC dentro de los puestos de trabajo que tendrán más campo laboral de aquí a unos años más serán: Especialistas en Inteligencia Artificial, Analista de seguridad de información, Analista de datos y Científico(a) de datos, Especialistas en transformación digital, entre otros. Frente a este panorama, la Universidad Católica de Chile, inició una nueva carrera, Licenciatura en Ingeniería en Ciencia de la Computación, invitando a las y los estudiantes a aprender algoritmos, programación, sistemas, redes, inteligencia artificial, seguridad informática, entre otras materias especializadas y focalizadas en computación. La Licenciatura en Ingeniería en Ciencia de la Computación, tuvo su primera admisión en el año 2023 y busca preparar a estudiantes con capacidades y habilidades en resolución de problemas, tener un pensamiento crítico y ético, que abogue por el bien común y poder aplicar conocimientos sólidos de fundamentos matemáticos y algorítmicos de computación. El Departamento de Ciencia de la Computación, que es la unidad de la Facultad de Ingeniería, quien imparte la carrera, ha observado que a través del tiempo la computación es una herramienta interdisciplinaria, que está a la vanguardia del aprendizaje en todas las áreas. De hecho, dentro de la malla curricular, no sólo hay ramos relacionados a la tecnología, matemática o computación, sino que también está abierta la posibilidad de que los alumnos y alumnas, puedan tomar electivos relacionados a otras carreras y en otras facultades, con el fin de darles una visión interdisciplinaria para que todo lo aprendido, pueda ser aplicado a otras áreas. La admisión a esta carrera puede ser a través de las pruebas nacionales (PAES) y también por vías de admisión especial. Estas últimas, buscan potenciar a estudiantes que ya estén involucrados en el mundo de la programación, innovación, tecnología y que lo puedan demostrar. El puntaje de corte del año 2024 fue de 818 puntos. Por vías de admisión especial, se pudo postular a partir de los 670 puntos, mientras que las vacantes para esta innovadora carrera fueron de 80 personas.
